Landforms
The Netherlands does not have a lot of mountains. Most of the country is flat. Parts of the central area of the Netherlands is covered by low rolling hills. The land rises as you get closer to the Ardennes Mountains.
The country has suffered many severe floods which devestated the country and killed tens of thousands of people. To try to save the country, they build windmills to get the water out of the low lying areas. They also raised the farm land and villages by making man mand hills (also known as polders).
There are many ways of getting around the country by sea. The North Sea Canal is one of the main ways for the large ships to arrive at the port of Amsterdam.
Netherlands has both natural lakes and man made lakes.
